What should I expect a nine month old baby to be able to do?

Physical Development:

  • Movement:
    • Crawling on hands and knees
    • Pulling up to stand
    • Standing with support
    • May take a few steps
  • Coordination:
    • Reaches for objects with increasing precision
    • Transfers objects from one hand to the other
    • Holds a bottle or sippy cup
  • Sensory:
    • Explores objects with mouth, hands, and eyes
    • Responds to sounds and voices
    • May turn towards a sound source

Cognitive Development:

  • Object Permanence:
    • Begins to understand that objects exist even when they are out of sight
  • Problem Solving:
    • Pulls on strings to retrieve objects

    • Recognizes familiar faces and objects

Language Development:
