Guidelines for Trustee Church Committee

Purpose

  • To provide guidance and support to the church on matters related to its property, finances, and legal compliance.

Membership

  • The committee shall be composed of members appointed by the church leadership, with at least one member being a certified public accountant or having significant financial experience.
  • Members shall have demonstrated integrity, stewardship, and a commitment to the church's mission.
  • The committee shall meet regularly, as determined by its bylaws.

Responsibilities

Property Management

  • Establish and maintain a property management plan for all church buildings and grounds.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain the property to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Oversee any construction, renovation, or repair projects.
  • Establish and enforce policies for property use and access.

Financial Management

  • Develop and monitor the church's budget and financial plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Invest church funds prudently and in accordance with ethical guidelines.
  • Manage the church's insurance and risk management programs.

Legal Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to taxation, property ownership, and employment.
  • Review and approve contracts and agreements on behalf of the church.
  • Provide legal advice to the church leadership as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a contingency plan in case of emergencies or disasters.
  • Provide input on strategic planning and decision-making related to church property and finances.
  • Communicate with the church congregation about the committee's activities and recommendations.

Code of Conduct

  • Members shall act with integrity, confidentiality, and a commitment to the best interests of the church.
  • Members shall disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Members shall respect the views and opinions of others.

Bylaws

  • The committee shall establish bylaws that define its structure, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • The bylaws shall be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure they remain current and effective.

Reporting
